Estética da Gambiarra

Exhibition with artworks by Cao Guimarães and  curated by Felipe Scovino is called ‘Estética da Gambiarra’. 15 photographs and 4 videos are part of the show that uses a word impossible to be translated as a title: Gambiarra. This is a word frequently used by Brazilians when using improvisation or improvised means to make something.

Bas Losekoot: Streets of São Paulo

On 23 May 2007 the world celebrated the start of the 'Urban Millennium';  on this day worldwide more people lived in cities than in rural areas. In this year Bas Losekoot photographed the streets of São Paulo, one of the biggest cities in the world. A city of enormous economical inequality, where millionaires live right next to slum dwellers. Losekoot's work focuses on how everyone, rich or poor, is searching for a better future.

Exhibited in the Openbare Bibliotheek Amsterdam (Amsterdam Public Library).

Foam 3h:Breno Rotatori

As part of the Brasil Festival Amsterdam, Foam is showing the work of the young Brazilian photographer Breno Rotatori (Saõ Paulo, 1988) in Foam 3h. Rotatori makes photos and videos inspired by his daily surroundings. He creates poetic stories in an intuitive way that, through their special colour and use of light, carry the viewer into a world which lies between reality, remembrance and fiction. Habitar o tempo (live for the moment) shows a selection of photos from the series Bloco de Notas and the video Multiverso.

Rineke Dijkstra

Rineke Dijkstra was trained at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Amsterdam. Her first solo exhibition took place in 1984 at de Moor in Amsterdam. Dijsktra's photographs have appeared in numerous international exhibitions, including the 1997 and 2001 Venice Biennale, the 1998 Bienal de Sao Paulo, Turin's Biennale Internationale di Fotografia in 1999, and the 2003 International Center for Photography's Triennial of Photography and Video in New York.
