Favela Painting in A'dam

Kallenbach Gallery at Westergas in Amsterdam shows the Favela Painting Expo on 22nd and 23d of December.

Art is a unique messenger, crossing borders and building bridges. If implemented in an intelligent way it can be powerful weapon to catalyze social change. This is the main objective of the Favela Painting Project, founded by Dutch artists Dre Urhahn and Jeroen Koolhaas.

Vermeer in Sao Paolo

On the 11th of  December, His Highness Prince Maurits opened,  in the company of Her Highness Princess Marilène of Oranje-Nassau van Vollenhoven,  the exhibition of the painting ‘Woman in Blue reading a Letter' by Johannes Vermeer in São Paulo, one of the top pieces from the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. The painting is currently on a world tour (China Art Museum, J. Paul Getty Museum LA, Museu de Arte São Paulo,...) prior to the reopening of the Rijksmuseum on April 13 2013, after 10 years of renovation.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS TO FOSTER THE BRAZILIAN CULTURE IN THE NETHERLANDS
 
The Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Kingdom of the Netherlands announces that, until 19 October 2012, it will be accepting applications for financial support of the Ministry of External Relations to initiatives aimed at fostering the Brazilian culture in the Netherlands, in 2013, particularly in the fields of music, visual arts, performing arts and literature.

Jacqueline Machado de Souza studied Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Hasselt. Her work has been exhibited in the Dagmar de Pooter Gallery (Antwerp), Museum Het Domein (Sittard), BALINHOUSEPROJECTS(London) and Galerie Van Laethem (Oud-Rekem).

Chantal van Erven Dorens

Writer and researcher on Contemporary Art. Recently published monography on the Dutch artist Hilarius Hofstede: "Paleo Psycho Pop" ( D'Jonge Hond/ Komma, September 2011). Currently working on a writing and research project on artists in Brasil and interested in building up network in the arts in Brazil, Netherlands and UK with regards to this.

Born in Amsterdam graduated in Leiden History of Art in 1993. Studied in Amsterdam, Leiden and Florence (Istituto Olandese). Worked at RBK The Hague in 1993 with initial set up of the biennale Manifesta. Thereafter at Christie's Amsterdam, Old Master Drawings and at the printcabinet of Teyler's Museum Haarlem. 1996-1997 Germany, Frankfurt. 1998 Trinidad and Tobago. Lived and was practising sculptor in Rio de Janeiro between 2001 and 2007. Thereafter London: 2011 Mastersdegree Contemporay Art in London at Sotheby's Institute/ Manchester University. Sept 2011 publication of "Hilarius Hofstede. Paleo Psycho Pop." Currently working on a project of publishing on Brazilian artists in Europe.
