Good results with the Dutch representation at Tempofestival in Rio.

CALL FOR PROPOSALS TO FOSTER THE BRAZILIAN CULTURE IN THE NETHERLANDS
 
The Embassy of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the Kingdom of the Netherlands announces that, until 19 October 2012, it will be accepting applications for financial support of the Ministry of External Relations to initiatives aimed at fostering the Brazilian culture in the Netherlands, in 2013, particularly in the fields of music, visual arts, performing arts and literature.

Shackle

Shackle is Anne La Berge on flute and electronics and Robert van Heumen on laptop-instrument. Their aim is to explicitly and subtly exploit shackling in both concept and material.

Dutch Music Week in Sao Paulo

Centro Cultural Sao Paulo will organize a Dutch Music Week as part of the Month of Independent Culture Festival. The Dutch bands that are going to perform here are: Instant Composers Pool Orchestra, The Ex, Shackle and Corkestra.

In addition to these concerts there are also masterclasses, workshops and presentations. Also in the library of CCSP there will be several ‘listening poles’ with a dedicated Dutch Music Week channel with background information on Dutch jazz and Dutch jazz tracks.  A number of the bands will have extra concerts in Sao Paulo and beyond.

Sounds of Brazil by Cia Vocal Enrico Nery

The Brazilian group Cia Vocal Enrico Nery will have a tour in the Netherlands. Coming from Franca, a city in the state of São Paulo, the group got together with the wish of showing their talent abroad. With the help of friends and family, and with the assistance of the community of Weesp, that will host the musicians in their homes.

Interview: Marin Alsop conductor of São Paulo Orchestra

Marin Alsop: “My music needs to be a microcosmos of the world”

At the age of nine she decided to become a conductor. Some years later she became the first woman to conduct a major American orchestra. Marin Alsop, one time Leonard Bernstein student, is now one of the world’s leading conductors. A successful music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra who, from 2012, will also lead the São Paulo State Symphony Orchestra. Clarissa Mattos spoke with her. “The eyes of the world are upon Brazil. I want to be there, I want to build something.”
