RioHarpFestival 2013

From 1 till 31 May 2013 the eighth edition of the RioHarpFestival takes place in Rio de Janeiro. The RioHarpFestival is one of the biggest international harp festivals and the largest series of concerts in Brazil.

Harpists from all over the world give – daily and free - concerts in diverse locations of the city. The harpists play a broad variety of genres, from medieval music to European classics, from romantic to impressionist and from modern to contemporary Brazilian styles.

Centro Cultural Sao Paulo will organize a Dutch Music Week as part of the Month of Independent Culture Festival. The Dutch bands that are going to perform here are: Instant Composers Pool Orchestra, The Ex, Shackle and Corkestra.

In addition to these concerts there are also masterclasses, workshops and presentations. Also in the library of CCSP there will be several ‘listening poles’ with a dedicated Dutch Music Week channel with background information on Dutch jazz and Dutch jazz tracks.  A number of the bands will have extra concerts in Sao Paulo and beyond.

Aline Frazão is one of the most interesting artists of Angola's' new generation of musicians. She mixes her African roots with influences from Jazz and Bossa Nova. In 2011, the singer / songwriter 23-year-old, launched her debut album. She was assisted by José Manuel Diaz on bass and Carlos Freire on drums and percussion. A combination of their own songs and a repertoire from Angola, Brazil and Cape Verde.

A Brazilian group from Rio de Janeiro, formed in 1976 with a repertoire based on funk music mixing samba, jazz and Brazilian rhythms and has recorded four albums: "Maria Fumaca", "Gafieira Universal", "Saci Perere" and "Movimento".

Lilian Vieira made ​​worldwide headlines with the popular Brasil-ectro band Zuco 103. The versatile Brazilian singer is also regularly in smaller acoustic ensembles.

Gideon van Gelder is one of the 'up and coming' talents in the Dutch jazz circuit. He was a finalist in the Deloitte Jazz Award, and served with Benjamin Herman and Hans Teeuwen at the piano. He also leads the Gideon van Gelder Quintet.

Following the very successful tour to Brazil in October 2011, the orchestra will leave for another this amazing country in October 2012.
